Creating a query to predict and manager
out of space problems is easy. The query consists of FileName, FileSize,
and Create Date. (Make
sure you click on the include subfolders icon)
This insures that you are looking at the complete volume.

FileWizard assists you in planning for
storage growth. This chart shows the cumulative number of bytes created
in a year, overlaid with a line representing the rate of growth of the
stored data.
FileWizard makes it easy to see how fast space is
being consumed and projecting out of space events.
The graph plots file sizes versus create dates to show
cumulative space used. The red line is a least squares linear
regression on the data points to project an out of space date.

Figure 1 Cumulative
Space Usage Chart
Looking at Figure 1, we see that 9.3MB of space are
used each day and the 48GB of free space will not be used untill 2022.
So here is one volume we won't worry about immediately.
A different volume tells a different story. Here we
see usage at 74.6MB per day which will result in out of space on Feb 23,
2010. With FileWizard's analytical tools we have enough time to review
our storage strategy and to get the necessary approvals for additional
storage space.

the space projection query on a regular basis will keep you ahead of the
curve.
